The best job search tools for international students in 2026
Most job search advice is written for people who can work anywhere. On F-1, OPT or H-1B you need two extra things: a way to tell which employers actually sponsor, and a way to watch your clock. Here are the tools that do that, grouped by the job they do, with what each one costs.
Short answer: Use a free sponsor database first (the FlexApply Sponsor Finder, the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub or MyVisaJobs) so you only target employers with a real H-1B record. Search jobs on a board with a sponsorship filter, like Jobright, Migrate Mate, or Interstride if your school provides it. Apply faster with Simplify or F1Work, and track your OPT days with an unemployment calculator. If you are short on time, a done-for-you service like FlexApply applies for you, starting with a $49 trial.
1. Find out who actually sponsors
This is the step most students skip, and it is the one that saves the most time. A job posting rarely says whether the company has ever filed an H-1B. Public government filings do. Check the employer before you spend an hour on an application.
| Tool | What it does | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| FlexApply H-1B Sponsor Finder | Search 9,867 employers from FY2025 Department of Labor filings by company, role or city, with filing counts and wages | Free |
| FlexApply Sponsor Shortlist | Pick your role and get a ranked list of companies that sponsored it | Free |
| USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub | The government's own data on H-1B petitions approved and denied, by employer, back to 2009 | Free |
| MyVisaJobs | Long-running sponsor database built on public filings, with rankings by employer and job title | Free, with ads |
Tip: search by job title, not just company. The same work is often filed under different titles, which is why a role page finds more sponsors than a keyword search.
2. Search jobs with a sponsorship filter
General job boards bury the answer to "will they sponsor?" These tools filter for it, or at least surface it. Filters are not perfect, so still check the employer against the filings above.
| Tool | What it does | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Jobright | AI job matching with a work authorization filter for H-1B sponsorship | Free tier, paid upgrades |
| Migrate Mate | Job board limited to employers with a sponsorship record, also has a phone app | 30-day free trial, then $29 a month |
| Interstride | Job and internship search built for international students, with a visa sponsor filter and country guides from GoinGlobal | Free if your school subscribes |
| Handshake | Your school's job board. Many postings say whether the employer accepts OPT or CPT | Free for students |
3. Apply faster yourself
If you are applying on your own, autofill and resume matching cut the time per application. They do not tailor your story for you, and they do not check sponsorship unless the tool says so.
| Tool | What it does | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Simplify | Chrome extension that autofills application forms and tracks what you applied to | Free, paid upgrades |
| F1Work | AI agent and autofill extension that only shows jobs at verified H-1B sponsors. You approve each application | Free in beta, then $5.99 a month |
| Jobscan | Compares your resume to a job description and shows the keywords you are missing | A few free scans, then paid |
4. Watch your clock
OPT allows 90 days of unemployment, and STEM OPT adds 60 more for 150 total. The days count whether you are searching or not, so know your numbers before you plan your search.
| Tool | What it does | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| OPT Unemployment Days Calculator | Counts your used and remaining 90 or 150 unemployment days | Free |
| STEM OPT Date Calculator | Filing window, extension dates and reporting deadlines for the 24 month extension | Free |
| 60-Day Grace Period Calculator | Your last day in status after OPT ends or an H-1B job ends | Free |
| Cap-Exempt Checker | Whether an employer (a university, nonprofit research group or government lab) can skip the lottery | Free |
| H-1B Lottery Odds Calculator | Your realistic chance of selection based on degree and number of registrations | Free |
5. Have someone apply for you
When the search is taking hours a day and the clock is running, some candidates hand the applying to a service. These are the main options in 2026. Our full comparison covers who applies, tailoring, sponsor filtering and fees after hire.
| Tool | What it does | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| FlexApply | A human team tailors your resume per job and applies only to employers with an H-1B filing record. Built only for OPT, STEM OPT and H-1B candidates | $49 trial of 20, $149 for 100, $249 for 250, or $200 a month Placement |
| Scale.jobs | Human assistants apply for any job seeker | $199 to $399 one-time packs |
| ApplyDone | Human team for visa candidates, screens each role for sponsorship | $199 a month |
| JobApplyExpert | Human assistants, plus a fee after placement | $119 to $179 a month plus $1,000 after hire |
| Magmira | Coach-led service with interview prep | From $849 one-time (2 months) to $499 a month for 3 months |
| F1Jobs | Human team that runs the whole search with coaching, for F-1, OPT and H-1B candidates | $349 to $499 a month, six-month minimum |
What to avoid
Auto-apply bots that send one generic resume to hundreds of postings with no sponsorship check. They are cheap, but most of those applications go to companies that will never sponsor, and the same resume sprayed everywhere can get your name flagged as spam in an employer's applicant tracking system. Also skip any tool or service that asks for a large payment upfront before you see any of the work.
How we checked
FlexApply wrote this page and runs some of the tools on it, so check each one yourself before you pay. Prices and features were checked on each provider's own site in September and October 2026 and can change. We do not take payment to be listed here.
